ASI Childrens Charities Trip to Guatemala 2020

Debi & Mike joined a great group, Mission St. Luke. Mission St. Luke is a nonprofit made up of servant-minded individuals who have been traveling to Guatemala for many years. The group includes doctors, dentists and some very energetic volunteers who join forces with local contractors to work on various construction projects in the villages in and around San Lucas Taliman. This year the construction group worked with the local leaders in a very impoverished village called, San Juan Mirador. The current project was to dig ditches beside the village's only road so that piers could be poured in order to reinforce the road during heavy rain events. According to Debi and Mike, the fact that they returned each day to the same village really enhanced the experience. Every day the local residents welcomed the volunteers and the children began to call them "the abuelitas" which means Grannies in English. ASI Children's Charities is proud and honored to announce that they will make a $5,000 donation to the organization called "The Least". The Least is currently focused on reconstructing an abandoned orphanage so that it can be used to serve the elderly population in San Lucas Taliman. Share0 Sarah Stewart Sarah Stewart

In Memory of Daniel Jimenez
Daniel Jimenez was a precious young man who spent 10 years of his short life attending classes at ASI Firewheel. He passed away on February 20. Daniel Jimenez was a precious young man who spent 10 years of his short life attending classes at ASI Firewheel. He passed away on February 20, 2018. The very special impact Daniel had on his coaches and classmates at ASI could be seen in the eyes of everyone he touched when they learned of his passing at the tender age of 17. His coaches were truly broken by the news and immediately started brainstorming on ways to honor his memory. ASI Firewheel set up a "Possitivity" Wall were all coaches and students could write positive supportive statements about others in their life. They also put on an event that raised funds to help build a porch named in his honor at the local animal shelter, Garland Pawsibilities . Donating his time at this shelter was very important to him and he had a positive impact to everyone he worked with there. His mother, Diana said, "He started taking classes at ASI in kindergarten and quickly joined the competitive team. When he entered middle school, the time demands of team was too much, so he reduced his attendance to two power tumbling class a week. One of my favorite memories of Daniel, was coming into the gym and sitting in the bleachers. He did not know I was there, so I felt like a fly on the wall watching him. He was always cutting up with the coach and trying to take over the class. It's one of the happy memories I have to look back on when I'm grieving." In memory of this special young man, and the joy he brought to the gym, ASI has set up the Daniel Jimenez Scholarship. Per Daniel's family's request, it will be awarded annually to a young man that is interested in participating in the competitive team at ASI.
